Adidas just debuted its newest shoe -- which has a 3D-printed sole.
The German company said 5,000 of the "Futurecraft 4D" shoes will be available at retail stores in the fall and winter. It adidas equipment plans to start mass producing them next year and expects to have made more than 100,000 pairs by the end of 2018. The company would not disclose where the shoes will be manufactured.

To create the shoes adidas eqt support 93/16 has teamed up with Carbon, a Silicon Valley-based 3D-printing company we’ve covered before. The startup, which has raised over $200M from Sequoia Capital, GV, Yuri Milner and others, is focused on making 3D printing a viable manufacturing method for large-scale production across industries.The key to turning 3D-printing into more than a novelty used only for prototyping is speed – which is what Carbon prides itself on.

Using a method called Digital Light Synthesis the startup is able to print adidas eqt guidance 93 objects up to 10 times faster than other 3D printers. The difference is that instead of printing an object layer by layer from the top down like traditional additive 3D printers do, Carbon’s process is continuous and starts from the bottom.

In a press release, Adidas explained that Futurecraft 4D's midsole is "born out of 17 years of running data," and created with Digital Light Synthesis — a super futuristic process adidas nmd r1 that uses digital light projection and liquid resins.For now, Adidas plans to release three hundred pairs of Futurecraft 4D sneakers in April 2017 for "friends and family," and five thousand pairs for retailers in the Fall and Winter of 2017.

Though the company's last 3D-printed shoes were limited edition, Adidas plans to create more than 100,000 pairs of Futurecraft 4Ds by the end of 2018, so here's hoping you'll be able to snag a pair.
