ALCS Game 3 Preview- Yankees
Starting pitching is not kind to the Jason Spriggs Jersey Yankees within this series first two games. The Yankees offense let CC Sabathia free by mounting an eighth-inning comeback, however they had no such luck with Phil Hughes around the mound. The offense went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position, including 0 for five because they tried to mount a comeback within the later innings. Tonight theyll use their longest tenured starter, Andy Pettitte, for a victory in Game 3. Pettitte includes a longer postseason resume than every other active pitcher, and it has pitched more postseason innings compared to entire Rangers roster combined. Throughout that 256-inning history Pettitte has already established his ups and downs, but since he underwent reconstructive elbow surgery in 2004 he has been lights out. In 11 starts he has thrown 69.1 innings (6.1 IP/start) and it has allowed 26 runs on 50 strikeouts and 20 walks. In just two instances has he allowed more than three runs. This stands in Brian Price Jersey contrast to his earlier postseason record, which was full of bombs and brilliance rather than steady, solid performances. The current Rangers roster has hit Pettitte well, a .308/.373/.462 line in 162 PA. That lineup also hits fine se and average pitchers better than power pitchers, and hits average flyball/groundball guys better as well. None of those bodes well for Pettitte. None of it is particularly predictive as we saw on Saturday, sometimes pitchers will fare well against hitters who'd normally hit them. But if Yankees fans are keeping a Concerned Meter, the dial needs to be turned up to a decent degree. That could increase a bit after we look at the Rangers starters career numbers against left-handed pitching. Elvis Andrus: Kenny Clark Jersey .318 wOBAMichael Young: .363Josh Hamilton: .410Vladimir Guerrero: .413Nelson Cruz: .339Ian Kinsler: .389Jeff Francoeur : .346Bengie Molina: .353Jorge Cantu: .330 Some of those numbers dont nece sarily reflect current talent levels Cruz appears a bit low while Molina is much high however they still dont look encouraging. The Rangers have hit left-handed pitching well. The savior for the Yankees is the fact that fly balls have a tendency to die in left-center. The current Yankees hitters have faced Cliff Lee 308 times within the regular season and also have hit him decently Jake Ryan Jersey well, .280/.329/.482, quite a little much better than Lees career type of .260/.307/.405. There are, obviously, two different Cliff Lees. After his 2007 demotion to the minors he turned things around and be among the games most dominant pitchers. You can Demetri Goodson Jersey read concerning the full Ny Cliff Lee history on River Ave. Blues. While many things can happen in any given game, the match-ups within this one seem to favor Texas. The thing the Yankees dre s in their side is experience, so we dont understand what that counts for, whether it counts for anything more. But for eight from the 10 starters tonight, its the first postseason visit to Yankee Stadium. The Rangers have to be thankful that the one of the three that's been there's Cliff Lee.
